What is a running watch?

The running watch allows professional athletes and sport enthusiast to measure their performance, keep track of their progress, and make the best of their workouts. Equipped with GPS, some sport watches offer even more advanced functions, which allow the user to measure distance, speed, pace, and calories burnt. They could be connected to a computer and export the data, which could help the athlete to analyze it, compare it with his or her previous data, and share their results with other users.

What are the benefits of buying a running watch?

The sports watches are ideal for professional athletes, as well as anyone who is serious about his or her activities. They are used by runners, cyclists, skiers, rowers, and swimmers and they provide all the statistics that they need. Using the software that comes with most of these watches, the user could chart their activities, and plan them accordingly, after identifying the areas that need improvement. With adequately large display, the running watches provide up to date information and are light enough to be worn by anyone; in most cases, once the initial setup is over, using the watch is as simple as pushing a few buttons. The displays of the running watches are capable of showing two, three, and even more type of data simultaneously, giving the athlete all the important information on the go. The latest models come with highly sensitive GPS receivers, which can lock onto a satellite even when they are used in urban environments, or when the runner is close to tall trees.

What sports watches are available and what are their features?

The different manufacturers offer models that range in price and features. Some of these models come with a few basic options and are ideal for the weekend runner, while others are perfect even for professional athletes, who are preparing for competitions. Some models are waterproof, making them suitable for swimmers, while others are shipped with foot pods, which allow cyclists to use them. The most advanced models have highly sensitive GPS receivers, use wireless technology to connect to laptops and computers, and offer a multitude of useful features. One common accessory that many of the sports watches can work with is a heart rate monitor, which allows the user to train at the perfect pace. Additional specs that should be considered are the life of the battery, the internal memory, the ease of use, and the availability of advanced workouts, course, interval training, and lap history.
