Our review
The Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS watch was released in 2006 and is an improved version of the Forerunner 205; it keeps most of its predecessor’s main features, but adds new ones that make it more reliable, easier to use and overall better athletic device.
Let’s start with the observation that the watch appears slightly bulky, but is surprisingly light (only 2.72 oz), with 1.3 x 0.8 inches, 160 x 100 pixels resolution display, and buttons on top and on the side. The watch is also water-resistant and is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that lasts for up to ten hours. The GPS comes with a high-sensitive receiver and antenna that is located on top, which is a huge step forward from the previous 205 version, and results in far more reliable satellite connection and better signal reception.
The main data that the Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS watch measures and collects is your location, destination, pace, speed, time, calories burnt and all in all it keeps track of twelve different types of date. The watch comes with a wireless ATN heart-rate monitor, which is much more reliable and accurate. The more advanced features like auto-pause, auto-lap, auto-scroll, Virtual Partner and Course make this device more user-friendly and allow you to compare your data with and even compete against previous workouts or pre-set pace.
The Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS watch is PC and Mac compatible and also works with Garmin Connect and Garmin Training Center, which gives you the opportunity to review and analyze your routines and workouts. Optional feature is the cycling cadence accessory, which can be attached to the foot and transmit data wirelessly.
